Winter 2013 - THE POTOMAC

Two Paraprosdokian Poems

   Eleonore Blaurock-Busch

To those who talk
while I don't listen

The voices in my head may not be real,
but they have some good ideas!
They are almost always right,
but unaware
my hearing aid
ran out of batteries,
some years ago.

To the one I loved,
moons ago

We never really matured,
we only learned how to act in public
and before the kids.
Had I agreed with you
during our (rare) civil discussions,
we'd both be wrong.

Many moons passed
and the last thing I want to do is hurt you,
but it’s still on the list I carry around.

I didn't say it was your fault
we failed.
I said I was blaming you.
